I cannot spend time in New York without thinking of Marlo Thomas. She is my youngest daughter’s superhero. It changes the way I engage with the city because I always feel ‘That Girl’ is walking beside me with a big optimist’s grin and clean white gloves. Marlo was, however, decidedly absent from the dark, gothic and sublime McQueen exhibition which I just managed to catch at the 11th hour. There is no point in writing on since it has been only too well covered. If you have not had enough the Met blog is the best.

I had also missed the ‘Daphne Guinness gets dressed for the Met ball in Barney’s Window’ event altogether so here it is…if you, like me, have been otherwise occupied.

Now REALLY what I was up to…was a delicious tete-a-tete lunch with the legendary Jeremiah Goodman. I had a good snoop through his uber chic apartment, yours for the hunting (Architectural Digest October 2003), where every biblot and tchotchke is a story unto itself.

Sporting our ‘gin grins’… and heat weary…we tottered over to Pottertons so he could sign yet some more books.

Then a terrific gossip and giggle over lunch, which resulted in my new favourite possession d’jour.
