Monday 24th September 1.30-2.15

Min Hogg, founder of leading interiors publication, World of Interiors, and leading interior designer Nicky Haslam will look back on their careers and the design journey they have taken over the past 35 years. Hear about their key moments, the iconic products and people they have worked with and the explosion of decoration.

Nicky Haslam’s greatest legacy is his undeniable talent and influence as one of Britain’s most respected interior designers. In his spare time he is also known as a socialite, actor, artist, cabaret singer, book reviewer, art editor, memoirist and literary editor and he features on both Vanity Fair and GQ’s best-dressed lists.

The Haslam aesthetic has been magnetising design cognoscenti around the world since 1972 when he first started practicing as interior designer. In the late 1980′s Haslam founded his London-based architectural and design firm, NH Design. The firm is established as one of the most important luxury interior design offices in the United Kingdom, known for high-end design, bespoke furnishings and a style that is ever changing with the times, yet always distinguishable for its humour, charm and wit - much like Haslam himself. Under his guidance, his creative team combines a unique sense of history with a modern contemporary outlook and the firm works on projects all over the globe including the English countryside and London, New York, Morocco, New Orleans, Denmark, Montreal, Barbados, St Jean Cap Ferrat, Monaco and Moscow, Klosters, Grasse, Mallorca, Los Angeles and Paris.

She Lay down…

Well she also lay down in the forest…which for all intensive purposes looked ever-so-much like the sea…

and this summer especially found it replete with coral looking fungi…

Well I know there’s a decorating project in here somewhere. So lets don our best Bob Dylan chapeau and off we go…

It’s my Bajan friend who points out….’everything here looks like the sea!!’

and the more I look - the truer it becomes.

The pekes want to know ‘what IS all this all this divine smelling stuff!’

And in the end it’s a handsome collection of conch fungi….the type we used to carve as children. Now that brings back memories.

Why not fill a pretty conch with concrete and use it as a doorstop!

And the blogging is silly. I can’t help myself, and I laughed with glee when it was revealed to me that Frederic Edwin Church, that OH so important central figure in the Hudson River school of painters….sanded back this fine antique acquisition because he found the dress ‘too white’!! Gasp’s all round, but makes perfect sense to me and I feel he did indeed improve it - but there I give myself away as a decorator I suppose don’t I? Reckless disregard for the fine arts. Well Elsie (Mendle - is there any other?) would have approved, I’ve no doubt what-so-ever!
